mostly earn through good life skills, and a few lucky deals here and there.

[quote="MR BigBeefy LDV Guru"]i really wanna go there one year i was told by a pikey when my hair was longer and curly that i looked like a pikey and that was by a pikey

ps the term pikey wasn't used nastily ok slippy  [/quote

slippy. you really need to explained why a proper traveller really really gets
when branded a pikey.....once the ignorance or lack of knowledge is corrected...i.am pretty sure slip as a welcoming and friendly forum as this one is, the free use of the word pikey in a negative term would only be a rare comment in the future.... :( :) ...

It nice to see things have moved on here and people other than me objecting to terms like Pikey and Gypo etc. I left after everyone thought it was OK to put the phrase 'Gypsy Scum' in a signature. I know it is usualy done with no real intention of offence but it is nice when people realise their mistakes and stop doing it!

I am inolved with other froums where this has been an issue! and usualy when people reaise they are i the wrong they are happy to change.

Did you see the artile by the cheif constable of \warwickshire polise in 'Travellers Times' in the latest issue objecting to the term Pikey?

these links make interesting reading:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/7446274.stm
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7445636.stm

it is also interesting though how the BBC still forget to capitalise the G in Gypsy, as they do in African or English as it is the correct format another interesting link:
http://www.howtowriteessay.co.uk/capital-letters.php

anyay thats my little 'soap box moment' over thanks for reading

glad to see a few positive responses to this issue of pikey gypo, been used to describe all travellers.
just to clear this up,, calling a traveller a pikey is as bad as calling a none traveller a dirty smack head...
this will be my last comment on this issue as i feel enough has been said now ..and all forum members now know all feelings that are involved with the phrase pikey.
After all , we all joined this forum because of our transit passion ,, yes.. :D

i feel i must add here

my using the pikey word was just a wee wind up to slippy

i do call a couple of mates pikey they are travellers but again that is only a wind up and never when others are around

i would never call a traveller a pikey

its like calling a black guy the n word

as i said i would love to do appleby fair one year
