MK5 SIX wheeler Car transporter

6 wheel transit MK5 and I dont mean twin wheel axle either... but I have now seen it twice...
Saw it on the Sadlers farm roundabout about a week or so back, but I didnt get a good look, but I saw again last night in Hockley. Front wheels look like they are spaced out level with the arch and the rear bed has been lowered. Mentioned it to Captian Hook and he thought they used to belong to ford, so a quick search found these

The local ford dealership round here uses a 6 wheeler mk5 to pick up cars, and theres a mk6 6 wheeler belonging to an independant locally

Theres also a 6 wheel spec lift which I have seen in Havant Occasionally

Theres a bodyshop (Gladwins I think) in Kings Lynn who have one, plated at 3.9 ton, handy bit of kit, or it would be if the ramps werent hydraulic so when they bugger up they cant be pushed back in, sat and watched one bloke trying to get them back in the bed for 20 minutes, still, at least he's on hourly pay

i saw the gladwins 6 wheeler go through narbrough twice yesterday. i`d like to know how the rear axel is fixed, as i was thinking of putting a 3rd axel on my truck, but its twin wheel so would be 10 wheels altogether
from what i could see the 3rd axel was just a straight axel, so i could use a standard axel with the diff cut out.
i was thinking of mounting it on coil springs and attaching it to the other axel
if it had have stoped i`d have got under and had a butchers.

I think the '3rd' axle is in fact 2 indespension (trailer or trailer type) units one either side.

not sure how legal it is... but it I was going to add an extra axle and just add another full transit axle...

fit it on backwards, so the propshaft mount points to the back of the van so ti doesen't get in the way... then add another set of springs on the other side of the corssmember the normal springs are fixed too ?

Dont thnk it is illegal, just has to pass an MOT, I dont if they still have them, but you used to have a engineers report!

Whats this for, a custom job?

i dont think you'd need to mount it backwards i dont think the i/p flange would be outside the wheels
if it was a swb you could take out the diff fit a plate over and chop the halfshafts down
