MK5 heater stuck on hot - rack and pinion issue

Postby Lexnels » Tue Mar 04, 2025 10:50 pm

My heater is blowing out very hot air, regardless of the position of the temperature dial.

I had a look inside the dash (and gave a liberal squirt of WD40 for good measure) and it seems like the blue rack and pinion for the temperature dial bashes into the back of the fan speed control. Is this normal? It seems as though the cable it controls pushes all the way in, which should be full cold.

Here’s a video of it in action https://youtube.com/shorts/GVr3LkOurXc? ... 6niR3qe_ju

Have a look for the other end of that cable, maybe it’s come off or not attached,so not moving the temperature flap in heater box,and allowing it to travel further than it should
