If you are used to the sound of a healthy DI cranking over, one with a snapped timing belt will sound very different.
A timing belt failure in a 2.5DI is as routine as you will ever experience for a major mechanical failure of any vehicle. Which is why I love that engine. With any luck you'll just have bent a selection of pushrods, worst case, broken a few rocker arms.
Once you have the rocker cover off, the damage will be very obvious, bent pushrods will look something like this.

rods is around £20 new from a transit parts place, you will need to
adjust the valve clearances if you replace the pushrods, something I didn't do when it happened to me, then wondered why it wouldn't start
