What year/month did ford start putting the banana manifold Di's into the smiley trannys?

changed engins defointly 1992 jreg..used to drive one that was a swb van for a local company.haynes manual also say timing belts changed in 1992 as well dont know what month..turbo models from 1992 onwards get are fitted with epic managemaent system.someone may say a early date or more precise but defo 1992 j reg..

Were they fitted to all models or just the higher spec ones?

The banana engines were only in the higher horsepower models, mine isn't the banana engine and its on an S plate.

The lower performance ones like mine are the old DIs but have been restricted to reduce the emissions.

70 ps engines no banana inlet systems, and two bolt straight down front pipe exhausts, 76 ps engines have the banana inlet and three bolt front pipes that come out of the manifold at an angle on smiley faces.that i have found.
35 years of driving,repairing,sleeping in transit's lovin every minute.

I must disagree there as mine is the 76ps engine and it is not the banana type!

just been down me farm and my old diesal enigine which was a banana engine is a 76ps and was out of a 94 lwb van.the engine i just took out of my van is a turbo but is a bitsa engine out of a 89 swb van(bitsa engine is turbo banana enigne with di inlet manifolds with a cable injection pump)
