Twin Wheel/Rear Axle Conversion - Mk4 LWB

Postby sagarrod » Sun Sep 16, 2018 7:34 pm

hi

can anyone advise me if it is possible to convert a twin wheel rear axle to a single wheel spec, please?

is there an adapter hub option or would i have to exchange the entire axle?

thanks
Simon

If it was me and their is nothing wrong with your current axle and you are not going to overload the van I’d just get two old wheels cut out the centres to use as spacers and run on a single wheel and come mot time I’d put the twin wheels back on for the test but if you need to run at maximum gvw you may have to get a axle out of a later van and make it fit

I have run single wheels on my twin wheel camper for over 20 years and it passes its mot with the singles as the vehicle is permanently adapted as a camper and the wheels are sufficient for the axle load ( vosa advice to the mot station when they queried the single wheel). I have since fitted a swb 5 stud rear axle.

Why do you wish to fit single wheels?
