Timing belt question

Hi all,

I admit I have a bit of fear
With this automatic timing belt tensioner.

I don't fully understand it.

Is it possible to tighten it too much? The timing belt now is pretty firm, I can still push it down a little bit.

There is nice tutorials on YouTube, but all I have seen is about this
Manual sliding type thing, not the round spring one that I have.

I always figured if it's automatic, I can't do much wrong, but maybe I'm wrong.

And I'd like to ask at a time when I can still undo the fault..

If you follow the instructions that come with the new type adjuster and the marks line up after turning the engine two full revolutions all the locking pins go back in that should be all right sometimes you may have to adjust it again I always check it twice just to make sure.

Unfortunately there was no instruction at all with it, just the belt and the tensioner.

There is 2 white spots on the thing, and I can turn that with an allen key, but I am not sure to where, or what should line up with that second white spot. Would be great if there was a marking on the plate that you rotate as well, then it would be easy enough to understand.

You time it with the three locking pins. The pins are re-inserted after rotating the engine twice after fitting, so there's no need for markings.
If they won't all go back in smoothly, the belt needs re-adjusting.

You should have about half inch of belt deflection (push it down with your thumb) on the longest run of the belt, that's the correct tension.

I might have it a bit too tight then maybe.. Well I take another look on Monday as I am working over the weekend.
