Mild performance increase possible?

Postby HairyFool » Thu May 13, 2021 1:10 pm

I have a 1998 2.5TD Auto, Epic Pump. Damned great Fibreglass box fixed to it (AKA AS Motorhome) It has only done 23,000 miles. As far as I know everything is absolutely bog standard apart from the MH mods

Two issues. Any options to increase performance, it doesn't take much of a hill to pull it down? It happy to cruise at 60 on the flat and need no more than that. If nothing else the wind noise drowns out the radio
Nothing too heavy to protect the box.

When it does slow the box is reluctant to kick down.

You cannot do anything with the Epic injection pump, and being an auto means you would have to change the gearbox to fit a Bosch injection pump, but when was the fuel filter last changed? it might just be fuel starvation on high demand like hills.

The only thing you can do is to fit 100PS injectors to your engine - and make sure its serviced properly (i.e. valve clearances, cambt timing etc

Sadly both confirm my lack of results for finding anything in the way of options.

Curious about the need to change gearbox with the fitting of a Bosch unit?

Hopefully doing the cam belt in the next few weeks prior to putting it on the road, I will look at the filter at the same time.

The auto gearbox is controlled by the ECU.

If you go to bosch the ECU gets confused, and you lose top gear and get extremely harsh banging gearchanges
