Wooo Hooo! New Mk5 acquired! Is Hi Top conv' a big deal??

Postby DashiellNico » Fri May 14, 2021 3:41 pm

Just spotted a MK5 190 being broken up locally so I thought id call in and see what was left... I dont know where this van has been all its life but the damn thing is very, very solid underneath. Rear arches, rear quarters, rear crossmember, spring hangers, outriggers, inner sills, outer sills all like new really. The cab floor and steps need a fair bit of welding but apart from that and couple of scabby arches its a gud'un, I reckon, so ive bought it as a shell.

Trouble is its a Semi hi top and I do make good use of my Hi Top. Im hoping Ill be able to carefully remove the fibreglass roof and the cross braces from my existing and now very crispy 190, remove the rear 3/4 of roof from the new shell and then plonk my old roof on my new shell...... does anyone foresee any issues with that plan that I haven't considered?

Id get some pictures up but ive not got the thing home yet...
