Immobiliser problem 2000 Smiley 4x4

Postby mtbrik » Wed Oct 13, 2021 2:53 pm

Immobiliser issue help/advice required.

I have a 2000 Smiley ex fire service County 2.5td.

I’d just replaced the starter motor and had the van running sweetly for one journey and then it just cut out.

The dash lights are lit but no cranking and no solenoid clicking from anywhere.

The van is now at my local garage, and he’s checked the keys and all the earths, fuses and relays but to no avail.

The flashing security light is no longer flashing, if that gives any clue as to the cause.

Where do I go from here?

I am based near Dumfries and the experienced auto electrician that might have known his way around an old van has retired and none of the younger guys want anything to do with it.

The fuse box down by your right knee (sitting in the drivers seat), take the cover off and check the two fuses on the bottom row RH side (I think they're F32 & F33, 5 amp)

My diagnosis too Al,

Fuses 32 and 33 are in the fuse box for a reason, but have no markings

If thats not the cause its worth just double checking the PATS module hasn't become disturbed - its under the passenger side dash cubby.

Shame your not local - I would be able to sort it quickly!

In mine it was a damaged wire inside the RIM module on the back of the pump. From time to time it would short out and blow those fuses, but it could equally be one of the external wires.

Yup battery leads are good and tight.
I’ll check the fuses as soon as I can get to it, its a bit of a pedal away :-)
Cheers

Hi Matt
Is the PATs module the black box behind the ECU?

And I’d be looking for a poor connection or could it be goosed?

If its got water in it could be goosed, its not *that* unusual for water to get in....

If you get a lever and push it towards the center of the van it will come loose and you may be able to wiggle it out

I think its probably your fuses though

If the LED is flashing rapidly... after 60 seconds it will stop and give a blink code

Rapid flashing

Would be a code 32, it repeats it several times before stopping?

Yours is an auto? It will therefore have the Lucas EPIC system, and the most common cause of "a PATS problem" is the ECU not getting power (which is code 32)... 99.99999% of the time this is either the relay, or the fuse in the auxillary fuse box on the inner wing, between battery and engine
