Replacement for push fit connection type fuel filter housing

Postby In-transit » Sun Jul 03, 2022 10:31 pm

Hi All,
I'm fed up of the annual fuel filter sealing problems. I have the push fit connection (source of many a problem) filter housing with the twist on plastic ring holding fuel filter in place. It's always a sod to get new filter to seal, tried genuine ford filters, buying new housing with filter on change (makes fuel filter change cost £48!), all sorts.
Has anyone changed fuel filter housing type?
What did you use?
How do you get it to fit the hard plastic fuel lines once push fit connections are removed?
Should I just replace all fuel lines with normal fuel line, and if so what filter housing is s good replacement?
Many thanks for any advice or ideas.
It's you chaps that make this site so great.

.......... and it's the chaps deserting to facebook that leaves us looking for info in the wrong place. It's just a jumble of clothes, furniture etc which detract from transit items. Come back home, it's much easier to find what you seek here than being distracted by "junk".

On my mk3 I used a filter unit from a mk3 1.6 d escort van it had a spin on filter I got some banjo fittings and made up flexabe fuel lines this was on one that didn’t have the lift pump on the block if i remember correctly the plastic line underneath the van had a joint not far from the tank and I ran the fexie down to it not sure what I did with the return pipe.my mate did his and used the filter off a mk2 2.4 York engine

I had the same issue i replaced mine for a Landrover Defender 300tdi /discovery filter housing.
its a basic thing with a spin on filter that is available for under a tenner at every car parts shop in the UK
its a Bosch part so isn't infected with the famous land rover reliability.

this is just the first one i could find, i have paid no more than £15 for them in the past. just replace the banjo fittings on the housing and the pump with something more suitable for a transit and away you go, even bolts up in the standard location with the standard bolts.
I just went from the lift pump with rubber fuel hose to the filter, the pump and then rubber all the way back to the tank. i did away with all the standard hard plastic ones as one was damaged and pulling air in.

Same as Jamie, bosch spin on one from breakers £15, and some fuel hose and jubilee clips.

Thanks for your ideas. It's reassuring to know others have done it and it's not a silly idea. It'll be worth the work and expense now to save hassle every year.
Ive had many many transits (and girlfriends) and this transit is a 'keeper' (like my mrs') so worth the hassle!

I went with this one for ease and the fact it bolts straight on. Cheers Jamie
