1998 2.5 engine issues advise

Postby Chilly07 » Thu May 25, 2023 2:22 am

Morning all, well here in Oz.

I’m looking at a Transit for sale which has issues. Some 30 years since I worked on them and moved to a different trade.

This is what the owner has texted me…..

It loses power, auto electrician said it has alot do do with timing of electronic fuel pump, and may be dirty or faulty senders on exhaust system.

Do these have an electric fuel pump?

Anyhow what are your thoughts on potential causes of problem. Want to look at it today and would appreciate advice.

Are these engines still as slow as when they first came out or have they got a bit more go in them.

Thank you

Has it got the Lucas Epic pump? They are known to be difficult/impossible to fix when they go wrong many are swapped for a mechanical Bosch pump.

So your in Oz - where (as far as I know) they are pretty much all Lucas EPIC.

Based on the description I think you have a sticky cam ring in the injection pump - which means a new pump is needed.
