Does anyone bother overhauling injectors? 1998, 2.5TD

Postby Fordtractorman » Sat May 27, 2023 11:30 am

Does anyone bother removing their diesel injectors and having them sent away for overhaul on 2.5Di or 2.5Td?

Mr.Haynes recommends this be done every 60,000 miles.

My 1998 Epic Turbo engine has done 135,000 miles and they have never been taken out.

Anybody done it? Much of a job? Made much of a noticeable difference in any way?

Dunno if Mr Haynes is a good example, ever since the first Haynes Manual he's always taken everything apart into a myriad of tiny little pieces[/b], taking photos of everything, vaguely commenting about it then "re-assembly is the reverse of dissasembly". Many a vehicle in the 70s & 80s had ended up a collection of parts spread out everywhere due to Mr Haynes!

When I had a mk 3 I had to make up a tool to add to a slide hammer to get number 4 out this was the old type and need a lot of force on my later mk3 with stanadine pencil injectors I bought the Ford tool for removing them and broke it on number 4 I ran it for a month with the clamp off and used wd40 and outher releasing agents and still no good this was when motorsport was shut down due to foot and mouth so van was stood I decided that it was going to come out even if the head had to come off and yes it snapped off removed the head to find 4 cracked pistons so if your van is running ok leave it alone.

They cannot be overhauled. They can be cleaned and pop pressures tested/reset but thats it.

Nobody really does anything to injectors
