Replacement Exhaust Manifold for 1996 Turbo Diesel

Postby meterreader » Wed Jun 07, 2023 1:17 am

Am I dreaming to believe that their are available replacement exhaust manifolds for a 1996 turbo diesel. Mine has a crack in it which appears stable but would hate to have to scrap the van just for this, should it get worse. I have visited several wreckers and all have either a worse crack than mine or the manifold has already been claimed. What are my options?
Can it be welded, Are their aftermarket replacements? Suggestions appreciated.

Yes it can be welded or braized by somebody competent.

As you have found it is common for the TD ones to crack, if you find another it may suffer the same fate.

You might have to ask a few people though - lots won't weld cast....

Manifolds most definately can be welded, done them myself few times (not a Transit one yet). Find someone who's done them before. They preheat it up before welding and whoever's done them before will know that.

Not specifically for welding them but being following Barum engines on YouTube and they have done a cast exhaust manifold reface more then once not because they have been welded it seems that some manifold’s do warp so if you do weld it check it’s straight before refitting it .

Ok. Finally got a replacement exhaust manifold with the help of this forum. Thanks for the help. It is intact..... no cracks, but rusty. Can anyone tell me what the thread sizes are on the EGR valve connection ( currently plated over) and the turbo connection. I would like to run a tap down prior to starting install. Thanks again for help so far.
