Mk5 fuel tank filler trim

Postby drq.11235 » Fri Jun 23, 2023 7:47 pm

Hi. I have a Mk5 smiley I'm about to respray. I have removed the fuel tank, but I can't remove the plastic trim surrounding the fuel cap, nor can I find any information on the internet about about how to remove it. I was hoping someone here might have the know how. Thanks!

Think it's just clipped in. Once the screw is removed from the filler neck it should just be a case of "gently persuading it.

Hey, thanks... I feel you're probably correct, though the screw is removed, and i have applied a good deal of gentle persuasion, from all sorts of angles, and it still doesn't seem particularly keen to come out :c

Ok, well, did just manage to get it out. Put a piece of wood a small enough to fit in the hole and pushed downwards such that it levered upwards and outwards on the pointy bit at the back of the trim, and the 3 small tabs holding it in gave way pretty easily. Easy job.
