yes its tyres again !

Postby weseeyou » Wed Jul 26, 2023 6:23 pm

I have searched all day for some 195R 14c tyres for my Mk5 Smiley camper van until my eyes have gone blurred without success.
I phoned 14 x local tyre fitters without any joy and even phoned a few vehicle dismantlers in desperation zilch!....

I have found a few rubbish budget tyres at £100+ each which I refuse to pay for such a poor performance tyre.

So what are my options ?
Could I fit 15" wheels ?
or try and find a pair of used tyres (preferably on wheels as our local tyre fitters charge £25.00 to fit a tyre to a rim when I last looked.)
There must be others that have faced this problem what are the various options ?
Many tyres that are advertised are apparently trailer tyres ! not something that you would want to put on the front of your LWB Mk5 camper van .

I have 185r14c tyres on my twin wheel mk3. Plenty of that size to choose from - are you sure you need 195s?

well I just assumed that it would be best to go with the 195x14 tyres already on the van but 185 I hadn't really considered .
If I buy 2x 185 x 14 should I put the remaining 2x 195x14 on the front or the rear do you think .?

thanks for the link although it seems to be offline at the moment.
There are so many names I have never heard of and the treads don't look very inspiring either.
I have several quotes for Comforsor tyres so I'll see how much they cost to post 2x tyres. when the website works.

Does anyone recognise any of these cheap end tyres and can give me some feedback ?

Maxxis tyres are popular with the off-road Land Rover mob I had some on my doblo that was heavy on the front tyres and lasted as long as the better name brands and had no problem with road holding .

thanks for the feedback i have used maxxis tyres before on my bike so I am familiar with their quality which is good but I suspect they would be beyond my budget.
I have to add £25 fitting charge to each tyre and shipping costs to think about..Its looking like I'll have to settle for some 185R 14c tyres fitted locally best quote so far is £160 a pair of Comforsor

Black Circles from £80 fitted.

195 were fitted on the 100L because they have a higher load index than the 185s so be careful!!

There is certainly no issue in fitting 15 (or 16") wheels if you can find some that fit.

Steel wheels from customs seem to fit correctly (I haven't tried myself so cannot confirm) using alloy wheel nuts - and they can be obtained fairly cheaply now.

thanks MM ...I believe I have found some 195R 14c at a local garage for £75 fitted so I'm going to book them and get them fitted before the MOT next week.

Thanks for all your help and advice everyone ......
