Mk5 Passenger door won't open

I'm beginning to think the lock itself might be faulty rather than the latch.

It still won't open, but if I place the key in the lock, half the time I can turn the key to unlock it. I have to fiddle with it before it turns and the sound is clearly different.

Anyone have experience with something similar? I'm wondering if I should be ordering a replacement lock too.

I had a similar problem with the drivers door in that it would lock with the key but not open either with the key or with the internal handle. I manage to get it open numerous times, after my partner locked the door, by winding down the window and inserting a wire with a hooked end into the door lock. If you shine a torch down you should see a small slot in the cover. Go in through there and "fish around" sorry not very technical but it worked. You need to work the key at the same time.
