Breakdown

Postby mayon » Thu Jul 25, 2024 9:01 am

I have been away for a few days in my Transit van 2.5 turbo with Bosch pump, cruising down the highway here in Queensland when I pulled into a coastal town the engine lost power. When I loosen the injectors there is some fuel coming through but I don't think it is enough for it to start, fuel filter is full and fuel gauge says half. Any ideas? Thanks.

What would be the easiest way to check the timing belt. Thanks.

I had the van towed home, checked the timing belt and all the pins lined up. It seemed to have a bit of a blockage in the fuel line just before the lift pump which I cleared. Spent hours trying to bleed the air out at the injectors, seems to have a good spurt of diesel but won't kick over. Any suggestions thanks.

A few squirts of spray release fluid, brake cleaner or similar (easy start) when turning over usually pulls the fuel through and gets the motor running "under it's own steam"

Thanks for the reply, It kicks over with a shot of Aerostart but won't run by itself. It seems like there is not enough pressure to open the injectors. Thinking of taking the pump off and having it tested in a workshop.

Remove the stop selanoid if the pump is breaking up inside and bits are jamming it up but before you do that check your getting power to it if you pull the terminal off and touch it back you should hear it click.

I got my van going, it was something as simple as the wire to the fuel solenoid had broken off. I hadn't considered this because fuel was still getting through to the injectors. Thanks to Dumper for pointing me in the right direction.
