None start ran fine

Hi got a mk5 80k from new 1997

Ran fine all last year towards last few days of the season 1 mile from depot it cut out on the driver. He managed to start it and limp it back to depot. It would run but only with pedal to maximum and would run rough.

Its been sat in unit since september and as its new year want to get it back out to mot ready for March.
It wont start at all. The battery is full and left on trickle charge constantly starter works full speed

Put a new fuel filter on no change
I cracked both injectors and fuel came out still wont start evan with throttle to max.

I was doing it myself so was unsure how much fuel was coming out but after i cranked there was enough diesel for it too start surely ?

When cranking there is some smoke coming out of exhaust

It must be fuel pump or strainer in tank?

My next step tomorrow is to use some easy start just to make sure engine runs

Yeah try it with easy start first to see if it will run, and maybe if its just a lack of fuel it will pull it through and keep running, if not but it does start with easy start then try a can of diesel plumbed direct to the injection pump inlet and crack the injector unions a few turns and crank the engine until fuel pisses out of each one then tighten and see if it will start, if not then you may have more than just a fuel problem.

I'm sure this is not the answer, but just in case... I once had a diesel that would only run if pedal to the floor. Turned out someone had put petrol in the tank. Still just about ran.

Gonna give it a go with easy start

I did think about maybe petrol in

Tank is 3/4 but it went out and done 50 miles then started issues 1 minute from depot.

If it runs on easy start must be fuel issue at that point.
Its only got 77,000 miles on it

A few years ago a friend from Dnepr came to visit me, spent the night at my place, and in the morning the engine wouldn't start.
It turned out that the teeth on the timing belt had been cut off.
Remove the timing belt guard and make sure that the pump shaft and camshaft are rotating.
If they are rotating, check that the marks match.
The belt could have jumped a tooth.

So cracked all injectors again no start battery trickle charger all night thats fine starter is fast as it should be

Got some of the liquid and it is diesel not petrol - Tested by lighting it on some tissue

Put some easy start in and it fired straight up barely a touch of easy start. Kept its revved up around 2000rpm to get some heat in so it would idle itself and after 1 minute let it idle. It is idling but fairly rough and it goes from idle speed up to a higher idle then after a few seconds back down again. Defo not right but at least its not the engine or timing? Once revved up its smooth but I havent drove it just at stationary I can imagine it being slow.
It also will start its self now but probs down to it being warmer.

So my question is now is it the fuel pump? The fuel filter has been changed

Could it be a bad injector?


Or the timing out on the fuel pump?

Im thinking its the fuel pump likely?? But im not the expert you lot are And have seen this many times before
