Stalling when braking

Postby Taylorstransit » Tue Mar 25, 2025 12:25 am

Mk3 transit

Will stall engine when braking, indicate or headlights on. Sometimes its really bad and all the time but lately it can be fine for a few miles then just do it randomly when braking then work fine again. So it must be electrical but odd hoe it stalls engine. Also it wont really start unless your remove the power i.e indicator back to normal position or not brake

Have checked battery, battery cable condition, cables in bonnet, earth points

I was thinking it must either be stop solenoid on pump or ignition switch/barrel so have ordered them as they are cheap

Just odd how it stalls engine

Often, a sudden engine stop occurs due to a hidden defect in the stop solenoid on the high-pressure fuel pump. I know of two such cases on the old Russian Ford Transit forum from 2009 to 2014. In 2014, I received a permanent ban there.
Recently I encountered a problem where the wire from the ignition switch to the cut-off solenoid broke. Sometimes contact appeared and the engine started and the car moved, and then suddenly stopped.
