1998 would be a Mk5 (smiley front)and if it's a standard N/A diesel there won't be an ECU.

If it's a factory turbo diesel, or a petrol engine, someone else will know

WOW this is super interesting!
I just read that this model really doesn't have an ECU, and it's mostly mechanical.
So I have a couple of questions:

How come I still have an OBD plug on the fuse box?

It is making it easier to disable the annoying immobilizer, am I right? All I need to do is take it out and connect the wires straight to the battery with a small manual switch?
Do you have more ideas on how I can bypass the immobilizer? I lost the keys! Even buying a new kit will work since I only need those specific modules, the antenna around the ignition, the relay and the PATS box?

BTW those are the details of my specific car:

PATS can be disabled by removing the RIM module from the back of the pump, and applying switched 12v power to the (now exposed) pump stop solenoid. The key chip will then be irrelevant.

I think that the starter is also connected to the PATS, cause when I'm trying to start, there is not any sound
