Help engine replacement

Postby Slow » Fri Feb 21, 2025 1:09 pm

Hi everyone
I've got a 1992 190 2.5 Di naner engine Luton that we have lived in working on farms up and down the country for the last 13 years or so . Been great reliable van.
But... .. it's getting to slow now think the rings are going .
So I would like to put another engine in either a 2.0 petrol or another d.i with turbo or any other different engine that's bin done with out messing about to much .
Also if anyone now's of a place or person I can take it to and buy the engine+ fitted
If I can just hold 55 mph on those long hills I will be the happiest man in England.
We are in the Sussex Hampshire Kent area at the mo.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated
Kind regards gaz

All the 2.5di engnes are basically the same just have different ancillary parts, so you may have to swap all your bits on to any donor engine.

Have a chat with "Neil Clark" the Transit Mk5 Smiley group admin on facebook. I'm fairly sure he will have a good engine and will fit it?

We replaced our 2.5 di in our 1989 Mk3 with a turbo engine from a 2000 Mk5.
Straight swap and goes like a rocket.
I also turned the boost up to 15psi and fitted an intercooler.

You will be gobsmacked with the performance!

Yes you can fit the Bosch pump, but you will need to advance the timing and increase the fuelling.

Turbo is not vacuum operated - its just got a conventional wastegate

Thanks to everyone that helped with the engine replacement and the Lucas to Bosch change. Didn't have to advance the timing and haven't uped the pump yet and goes like a farari.
I'm putting my old engine ( 4da banana) on eBay 99 p start
Thanks
