Ok, went along a road to a guy who used to break transits. Has a whole shed of engines and bits and pieces - amongst them an ECU and pump DSA947, same as mine. Only difference is the date stamp and what I assume is the id tag (mine says 36,000 odd, his is 43,000 odd).

I presume since they are same DSA number that it will work ok. I plugged it in, and still no engine management light, and engine does not fire.

Does this eliminate the ECU as problem?

Ok update.

Removed the plastic top from top of pump to expose the wiring and fuel stop.

Applying a 12v source to the fuel stop makes it click (brown live, white negative).

Now, with the starter disconnected so engine doesn't crank, I reconnected the plug to back of pump, ignition to 2, no click, ignition to start, no click.

Put a 12v tester to the plug.

Across the pins, there is no 12v.

From live to engine block, 11.98v (battery is at 12.5v).

Tried this with both ECU's. Same result.

This explains why no fuel is getting to the injectors when I was testing fuel system.

Fuel at lift pump outlet.
Fuel at filter inlet.
Fuel at filter outlet.
Fuel at pump inlet.
Didn't test outlet.

No fuel at injectors.

Removed facia and stalks to expose cluster.

Removed and tested engine management light + water in fuel light (which works).

Light bulb has good continuity.

Have you tried another battery? I'd expect to see closer to 13.5v across the terminals and similar when testing stuff. You seem to be finding closer to 12v which is on the low side.

I have tried 3 different batteries, all produce the same results I'm afraid.

Am checking the ignition cabling and connections at fuse box for faults and continuity.

Initially I was reading low voltage from the ignition to power hold relay, but then I fried the voltmeter, so work ends. Am now considering any results I came to today erroneous.

But tomorrow is a new day, hopefully with a new volt meter.

When I did this, i should have tested for continuity/voltage with ignition down to the ecu plug, and also the flexi connections from socket to EMS light for continuity. 12v to the socket pins should = light :o

Kinda have to remove this again anyway, since I now found the screw that dropped down the back and ended up in the fusebox :o

Well, I have now sorted the EPIC problem and bled the injectors and starts and runs great again.

Thank you all soo much for your offers of help and advice + support.

In the end, it turned out to be something very simple and again my own stupidity that caused this.

When I installed the engine battery, the wires for negative were not long enough to reach the posts, so I reversed the battery.

After then accidently flashing the battery, I went to try the van and found it didn't start and EMS light was out, so automatically assumed I had fried it.

Turns out that the ECU earth wire was actually originally connected to the negative post of battery instead of earth by headlight, and not noticing this I then went and connected this earth cable to the postive post (as batt was now in reverse and the cabel didn;t reach across to negative). This explains why during testing I was receiving 12v at both ends of the cables.

I came to the conclusion it was an earthing issue after running an earth from the PH relay pin 85 start to bare metal on the door, which put the EMS light on permentantly. This showed it was an earthing fault.

After then investigating around the ECU for the earth behind dash, i noticed then that by wiggling the mount, the EMS light would come on when pushed to one side as the ecu was taking ground through the hinge, onto bracket under dash....

Then to the battery. Found the problem and now the cable is connected to the earthing point next to headlight so that this will NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN!!!

Thanks to all the people who posted here, especially AndyG, MinorMatt and Frag for pointing me in the right direction.
