Aftermarket temp gauge

My mk3 temp gauge is not working I've tested the sensor and that as two
: wires and tried putting each one to earth but no movement on gauge. As I understand it on rear of cluster the temp and fuel share the same block but fuel works fine. Has anyone fitted a aftermarket gauge but wired it into original sensor.
