Lucas epic pump leak from shaft

Postby QuebecTransit » Sat Nov 01, 2025 10:46 pm

I have a 2000 Transit with 2.5 TI engine (intercooled and turbo).

Pretty sure I have a Lucas Epic pump (I'm in Canada with a Transit Camper I imported from France, so it's hard for me to confirm anything locally).

After replacing my leaking radiator I noticed my water pump was leaking. Not wanting to lose another weekend I decided to have a shop swap out the water pump. Well, not it leaks from the Lucas pump.

I put UV dye in the fuel to try and find the leak. I see fuel on the underside of the oil pan and it seems to come out from under the timing belt cover. I don't see fuel anywhere else, not even under the fuel pump. So I am assuming it is coming from the pump shaft.

Question: is this the likely diagnosis?

If so are there o-ring rebuild kits and a guide here to show me how to fix this?

Thoughts?d

PS. Maybe I just buy a replacement bolt-on pump if you know where to order one.

Crap.

Confirmed Diesel in Oil. Might be the whole pump needs a rebuild then.

No idea where to find parts kits or replacement pumps as Ford just tells me to f*** off here on Canada.

The injection pump is external to the engine so fuel cannot get into the engine, more likely is a lift pump leaking fuel into the engine.

A loft pump would be easier to.managw I suppose. I can't find a diagram showing its location on the engine however. (I'm on Catcar at the moment).

Any idea where to find a good diagram that shows where it is?

Left side of engine from drivers seat, or right side looking from the front, lower rear of engine under exhaust downpipe.

Yes! thank.you! Although it's wedged in there so tight I have no clue how I'm going to reach it!

I think its easier to reach from underneath.

Welp. We now have a foot of snow here in Montréal. Received my lift pump this weekend. I'm going to have to tow the motorhome to a garage to have it done there as I don't want to crawl in the slush and snow under the old girl in freezing weather. I'll show the mechanic all the info you guys shared here. Thanks again for the help I'll let you know if it works.
