Fuel injected mk4 petrol

Have problems with it running on 3 then stopped altogether lucky in drive towed it out of the way with key on so wife could steer it. Discovered aircleaner full of petrol left it open to dry out, tried it the next day and it Hydro locked cylinders and sump also full of petrol. Why would the petrol pump keep on going or do I computer problems

DOHC multipoint injection ANSWER ONLY

will assume this is the DOHC engine , not even sure about the pinto fuel injection .. anyway answer is for DOHC with 4 injectors .. not pinto .. as i dont know anything about fuel injection system on the pinto

Usually these pumps pump until they reach the pressure desired to turn off .. its not turning off because its not reaching that pressure because you have a leaking injector or injectors.
Hydrolock will bend a rod.

To test for the leak ... take all injectors out and if possible re-attach them to fuel rail and observe for leaks as you switch ignition on DO NOT CRANK.. (note its only 30 psi or so not likely to piece skin etc, but is likely to to CAUSE A FIRE - so disable sparks at coil)

injectors can leak from old age .. and wear out after over 100,00 miles

its guess whats going on day, due to limited info, not provided by you

i'm guessing its the pinto and the EFI system .. and guessing that the single injector is malfunctioning .. also guessing because its high up filling cylinder and wetting air filter.

or you have a leak at or before the injector .

In a Mk4, I would guess that it's a Pinto engine, fitted with the Bosch L Jetronic injection, which I had fitted in my '88 Sierra.
I can't help with the injection system because I never had a moments trouble with it, but, misfiring, spark plugs, plug leads, etc, there were plenty of minor problems.

wasn't sure because 1994 is right on the change over date from pinto to DOHC

Me to AL the only problem we had with the pinto was the valve on the side of the manifold causing erratic idle just had to flush it out with Forty fuel additive the dohc had the same valve but never had a problem with it the only thing we did was regular fuel filter change on both

Thanks all it's a single ohc pinto in a Executive have not had much to do with efi petrol apart from a series BMW and that was a pain also, give me a diesel anyday
