Decided to do the valve clearance.
Wish I hadn't bothered.
Although the rocker cover was leaking so it needed fixing.

What a headache.
Stupid pipe has snapped.

I have mine blanked off. I cut a “gasket” from an aluminum can and used a hole punch to cut out the holes for the bolts. After cutting open an aluminum can, flatten it out and trace the shape and hole positions. First punch out the holes then cut out the shape with shears.

My tube wasn’t broken so your going to have to find a way to block off the tube too. Probably cut it shorter then use a metal cap to close it or a metal plug. Or flatten the end in a vise and fold it over.

Yep mines blanked at the top with a plate I made years ago.

Cut the head off and M10 coach/roof bolt and welded it to the manifold to block the hole.

Added some pipe (diesel heater exhaust) to make it a very tight fit.

Looks like a pass!
Fortunately here in Italy it’s only every two years and they’re not too strict.

When living in Holland it was a bloody nightmare every year welding up undercarriage rusty holes. They would go under the chassis shoving a screwdriver up to see if it was solid punching holes where there was rust.
