I usually drench the plugs and leads in WD40 and then do the same....leave it running, if it starts to 'chug' or 'misfire' I just stop and rev it till its evapourated the offending water and start again.

engine cleaning

Postby sean » Thu Jan 05, 2006 12:31 am

grey van man, this is THE best way i have found with all the engines i've cleaned(and that's a few!!) get yourself a red jerry can fill it up with cheepest petrol ,buy thick bristled brush not to large usualy sell them in halFORDs for use with gunk/jizer, pour fuel into bowl/bucket jam jar's worth at time, and brush liberaly all over engine might need to scrub realy bad areas but watch the muck fall off!!! if you devide the engine into quaters and scrub and wrince off! each quater as you go it works a treat!!! once your done leave to evaporate for an hour . then empty whole tin of wd40 over engine/electrics etc stand back and admire... you'll never do it any other way again :D

cheep petrol humm :? no such thing realy  but then how much does gunk cost these days :?: the engine has to be stone cold of course before cleaning, and i meant wait for at least an hour for the fuel to evaporate/run off ,(i use my air line on the compressor) it does sound dangerous realy  but if your carefull and use ones savvy then it does infact work very very well, you could of corse do the clean in the evening and leave the van over night tto dry off to be realy sure then wd40 it in the morn. :) i've used all other methods and the reason i now use fuel is it dosenot harm the electrics like water and once the fuel's evaporated, the wd40 makes everything shine bling bling 8) and work lovely.also damp proofs the engine too :!: :D  tell you what i'll do my engine soon and post some b4 and after picks so you can all judge for your selfs how nice it looks :D :D

PS... IF YOUR A SMOKER HIDE YOUR FAG'S TILL YOUR DONE!!!

Sure, petrol is highly flamable but I've yet to find anything that shifts grease and grime like it. You just have to use a bit of common sense. Remove the battery, make sure nothing is still hot, don't do it out in the road and make sure no one will flick fag buts at you! It's not going to spontaneously catch fire.
Honestly I've used it all my life as a degreaser but only in small quantities. I'm more concerned about the benzene in unleaded giving me cancer :( . I think I'd wear a proper mask if doing the whole engine.
