Help Please!

Hi all,

This may sound stupid to all of you but I've just bought my first Transit.
Can someone please explain to me what the numbers like 120, 160, 180 etc are.

Also can someone tell me what model this is, a;ll I know is its a 1989 F-reg, 2.0 petrol, 15-seat minibus with twin wheel rear axel.

the numbers 90 120 190 etc are models of transit,
Its a mk3 if that is what you mean

I know its a mk 3 but I had no idea what the 120 etc was, I didn't know if it was to do with engine, wheel base or what. Is there any way to tell which model this is as it just says 15 seat minibus on the V5. What are the differances between the 100, 120, 160, 180, 190 models (and any others I've missed).

if you look at your passenger step the model should be stamped on the vin plate.
i may be corrected but i believe the model refers to the gross vehicle weight and wheelbase mainly, yours will probably be a 160 to 180 model - 3100kg GVW

Looks like a 160 or 190 model to me, due to the double rear wheels and long wheelbase. If you check the passenger side stepwell you will find a rectangular plate with the vehicle details stamped on it.

I believe (but won't swear to it) that the 120/160 e.t.c numbers relate to the payload,
add a zero to the number & get the payload....... ie.
a 100 will carry 1,000 kilos (a metric tonne, note the 'ne' on the end),
a 120 will take 1200 kilos (just under a tonne & a quarter)
a 180 will take 1800 kilos (a lttle more than a tonne & three quarters)

(2.2 pounds to a kilo incase you didn't know)

Just for your info (as you are probably not as old as me)

Imperial TON made up of 20 x 1 hundredweight (which was/is 112 lbs)
So........... 20 x 112 = 2240 lbs (pounds)

Metric TONNE 1,000 kilos (a kilo being 2.2 pounds) =2200 pounds
