fuel tank 2.5TD 1997 LWB VAN

right i have looked into this a bit more today it would seem on my turbo engine i could mod the exhaust and still keep a silencer box? and with a bit of bending etc i could have it exit under the d/s b pillar and it would clear everything but the next problem is that my van has 2 strengthning ribs spaced 30" apart so a mormal mk5 tank would NOT fit so back to the mk2 tank i really need some sizes to see if it would fit between the 2 ribs and also the width as from the side of van to the prop bearing is 29".. what side is the ldv tank on?? as i think its a smaller tank??

have a search in the ebay section here, i posted a fuel tank a while back the images might still be on ebay and i'll look in the manual and see if there is anything in there about it

Believe it or not a friend of mine has a 110 litre fuel tank from a LDV convoy fitted underneath behind the back axle and is as snug as a rug.It seems some convoys were fitted with a bigger tank than the normal standard one and just bolts between the chassis rails.He the Ldv filler out the passengers side rear of the back axle.And the reason why????,he runs on vegi

Sorry mate wouldnt have a clue how to post pictures just barely able to write this,i am totally useless on computers.I am sure if you go to a scrappy and measure a Ldv fuel tank you should get a good idea.My mate who done this sells clothes at markets and is not exactly a rocket scientist but he did not seem to have many proplems.the standard LDV fuel tank is 30 inches wide by 24 inches long by 7 inches high with the fixing points at both sides halfway between the top and the bottom of the tank.the 110 litre tank is longer but is the same width.Go to a scrappy with your van and measure up,it looks to me you could one of the tanks to anything

ok i measured my mk2 tank,

Total size, including the lip/seam that runs around the middle, but not including the standoffs that are fitted to the top of it, is;
25.5" x 32.75" x 6.5"

now for some other sizes ....

tank size, not including lip or standoffs;
23.52 x 30.5" x 6.5"

viewed from above .... with the filler on the right hand side, leading edge (as you would want it in your setup)

The float'level sensor fitting hole (centre of) is 5.25" from the lower edge, and 12.5" from the right hand edge.

The filler tube is on the lower have of the tank when viewed from the side, and below the seam/lip (so filler tube must go up higher than the tank) and is 5.25" (centre of it) from the lower edge when viewed from above.

the standoffs are;
start 4" from the right hand (leading) edge, and it is 19.5" from that point to the far edge of the last one, these are about 2" wide and there is a lower set inside these

the standoffs are hard to describe, and will probably need some adapting or the van adapting to be of any use

thanks gs from the sizes you have given me it should just squeeze in but i might need to remove a strenghtning rib right tommorow i am off to all the breakers looking for a mk2 tank and see if i can get any further with this issue does it mount the same way as a mk5 tank i.e straps?? or does it have there own brackets??

straps and the standoffs rest on the chassis rails plus floor strengtheners to locate it, shouldnt be too difficult to mod it if you need

also the one i have ids galv so hopefully you'll find one in ok condition
