Stubborn Screws

Postby d4funky1 » Tue May 09, 2006 7:35 pm

Hi,

The rear bumper of my van has been sawn off and i am trying to remove the screws underneath to place the new bumper on.

Considering this van is 15 years old it's proving to be a little on the stubborn side.

Can anyone recommend a method that will get these off?

Many Thanks

Screws or bolts?

If they are screws try an impact driver like this.

Can of penitrating oil - Plus Gas is the best! spray some on and work the nuts bolts backwards and forwards untill they come loose :D

or just shear them off - they arnt tapped into the body but you will of course need new bolts!!! :D

You never know mate! I'd rather ask the questions and get all the info rather than just say shear them off. If I hadn't asked the first question we'd still be trying to undo screws!

You sound :o its all dependant on the quality of the fixings used...I've seen nuts/bolts rusted solid a year after they've been fitted :(

Nylocs seem to be the best as the nylon inserts help keep moisture out.

As for freeing them off . . . a liberal coating of penetration oil or Diesel works for me.
