Mk5 Mirror glass replacement

Postby Bryan » Sun May 14, 2006 11:09 pm

It says in the Haynes manual that replacement of the mirror glass isn't possible and you need to buy a whole new mirror - is this true?

The mirror glass in my passenger side mirror isn't broken but it seem to magnify stuff by a crazy degree so much so that it's not useable at all. Can I replace the mirror glass or do I need to buy a whole new mirror?

buy a stick on glass from your local motor factor and stick over the top of the existing glass - job done - cost you about a tenner

The old mirror glass will just pull out and and new one will just push in. You can get the genuine clip on one from Fords for £11 or buy a rubbish stick on one from Halfraids for about £14. I know which one I would choose.

And you forgot to mention that if it's not an electric one, you can get the whole thing from fleabay for around £20
