lift pump problem??

Postby iluvmytransit » Fri May 19, 2006 12:05 pm

Hi,

Some of you may have read my earlier problem were my 1996 Transit 2.5d cuts out, but only does it when on Motorway. Once the van has the problem you can try to rev etc but the engine sounds like it is getting no fuel to it then once it rolls to a stop the engine will start again on the first turn of the key. You can then drive another 1/4 mile and then it does the same again. However if you leave it for about 1/2 hour it will then drive another 20 miles then start again.

When I returned I changed the Fuel filter and this appeared to have solved the problem, I then went on a 450 mile round trip and on the way back, after travelling 300 miles wihout a problem. It then packed up on the M40! We then had to get taken back the further 150 miles by truck.

We have been told by the mechanic that it could be the lift pump and would like your opinion? were is the lift pump located and how difficult are they to change? also what is the approx price?

cheers,

Chris

i have read your problem on the other thread, have you had the tank off and cleaned it out, sounds like $hit in the tank blocking the pipe,
the lift pump is on the right hand side of the engine at the back looking from the front, its easy to change
