mk5 to mk3???

Postby Dave F. » Sat Nov 21, 2009 10:07 pm

From reading Martin.james' post below, it reminded to ask a question about my own transit. I've a 98 smiley front mk5 that's spotless except for a badly stone chipped bonnet and faded plastic headlight lenses.
However, I have in my shed a perfect bonnet from a mk3 transit in the same colour as my own. I've also got a pair of brand new genuine ford headlamps for a mk3...

So, will they fit without too much modification???

theres quite a few differences in the mk3 to the mk4/5 front panel for a start - i'm sure you could get it to fit but needs work to look right :D

The headlights are different and the mk3 bonnet means you will have 2 Ford badges one on the bonnet and one on the "smiley" grille, why not sell the mk3 stuff and use the money to buy mk5 stuff :D

Here in Ireland, selling parts for a mk3 ain't an option. There is none left!! Absolutely zero to be seen!

I got the parts from a ford dealer who was doing a clearout, so all the stuff is brand new. Amongst all the front end parts there was also brand new shocks etc which nobody wants...

I was thinking of changing the front of my van to both tidy it up and make it look a little, well, "different"? If I were changing the lights and bonnet to mk3 then I'd be swapping the bumper and grille too.

My main concern is with the panels the headlamps fit into. They seem a completely different shape to the smiley type...
