Front wheel bearing...any advice?

Postby piOn » Tue Nov 24, 2009 12:29 pm

Hi,

Changing my front wheel bearing in next few days...searched forum but not getting any hits.

Was wondering what what tools I will be needing? Just in case any of you have any little tricks with tools I may not think to have with me?

Any helpful tips on getting the thing out...Understand some can be quite tricky...If all fails will be taking hub to garage to have it pushed out and replaced...but they are a bit cheeky on costs around where I live so would prefer to do myself.

Thanks

Fairly normal really..........No hassle of drive shaft etc.

Tools required :- BIG 'ammer and brass or ally drift.

Follow instructions in Haynes manual.

to knock the inner race of the small bearing out you can drop a socket down from the back and use the extention bar to tap it out :D

I have to agree that the Haynes manual will give you full step by step instructions. Once youve done it you will wonder what you was worried about. Easy!

The caliper bolts have been mentioned several times on here, do a search.

It took a 6 sided socket, a long knuckle bar and a ring spanner to get mine out but it is possible.

regarding the caliper caryer bolts

i took the claiper of the carreyer then
i found getting some wd40 on the ends of the threds helped (using straw to ger behind disc)
i undid the bottom bolt using a braker bar and a socket then nocked the caryer with a hammer back and 4th (up and down) put some more wd40 on the thred and left it for a wile went back to it it undone easy yiou can buy the bolts from ford i think i still have the bag in my bog with the part number on it if you need it my bolts were nackered from the last owners atemts of keeping the truck up to scratch
