Disconnect the thin blue wire at the alternator and connect it to earth. Switch the ignition on and the battery (ign.) warning light on the dash should be on. If it is then it is a problem with the alternator (maybe new brushes not touching sliprings). If battery light does not come on then it must be bulb or wiring trouble.

I've just gone through this same problem and had 4 different alternators on the van. I didn't actually find an obvious fault with the wiring but I did find that the wires coming out from the main loom were slightly bent. Since straightening them everythings been ok but I did have 3 dead alternators and one of then was a "recon". Don't take it for granted that because the alternators been repaired, its working. Having it tested off the van is sure way to find out and that will also prove where you should be looking. Remember though if your light doesn't come on your battery won't be charging and it won't take long before it will let you down.
