Clunking Clutch 3/4th gear only

Any advice for me? I have a 1993 LWB Mk4 2.5D Transit, which has driven fine until today. I was coming down towards a roundabout off the motorway, geared down to 4th, no problem. When I slowed yet more, the clutch pedal made a "crack" sound, but did disengage. Seemed fine, but when I got back into 4th, it did the same thing. A few roundabouts later, I got the same in 3rd gear as well. It's fine in lower gears, as well as in 5th.

I have not had chance to look at anything, so it could be absolutely simple, but wondered if anyone has come across this before, and have any suggestions on what could be wrong - what I could look at?

sounds like your automatic adjuster at the top of the clutch pedal is failing

Is that an easy fix, or something that the garage needs to do? Is there anything I can do to "nuture" it?

New clutch cable

If its the clutch adjuster changing the cable wont help, change the clutch adjuster
They are about a tenna, a pain but not overly technichal to do, they loose teeth and slip then the slipping chips more teeth and eventualy the pedal just hits the floor with out pulling the cable enough to get a clean gearchange.
