Aux light

I certainly aint no expert so i ask advice ,For the older design 2.5 Di info is sketchy to say the least .My mechanic advises 15.40 semi synth and he is old school and pretty on the ball ,Yesterday i went into a ford parts dealer who had 5.30 sitting there waiting to be bought i asked his advice and was willing to buy his oil and when i told him 2000 2.5 Di Transit he said his oil in his opinion was too thin and to use 15.40 He didnt have any in stock.Off i go to Europarts give him my reg and he said more than one oil listed but reccomended 15.40 semi synth and told me it was the oil he reccomended to transit users , i kept questioning him only to be told dont worry it was correct i even rang back with concern oil was too high tech because on bottle it states "Top grade for high performance engines and suitable for Turbo" Again he assured me oil was suitable for my needs. My mind boggles.

5w30 is the correct oil however I believe (but may be wrong) that the user guide says you can use 10w40 and 15w40 too.

I use 15w40 in mine and have done since I got it, and it used that since it was about 3 years old with no problems (including starting) but it has been serviced regularly.

Its got 15.40 in it now anyway , As for servicing regularly its just a constant thing with my minibus i change oil and filter after about 10/12 k and change all filters + oil after double ,i dont reckon air and fuel need doing as often as oil .I do fairly high mileage about 1000 a week so its only 10 weeks between oil changes .but mechanic does see van at least once a fortnight to keep on top of all other things .The aux light appears to be to do with electric sidestep because at the side of the aux light is a trip switch for the step and wires connect the two .Mechanic will further investigate on Sunday when he takes van againfor further jobs done.

Only pullin yer leg birdy... 5w30, 10w30, 5w40, 10w40, 15w40... mineral/semi/fully all suitable, wouldn't recommend 20w50 my mums, but that said it prolly wouldn't hurt it!

Just done nippers Ka on 5w30 semi (or was it 'part' synthetic?)... it was like piss!

And that being and old design motor didn't really need it, 10w40 would've been better (the 5w30 was cheaper!!), the protection comes from the synthetic side of oils, mineral oils are ok for door hinges!

I'm suprised that some older motors on 5w30 don't get the odd flicker of the oil light at low/idle revs!
