96 DI 2.5 no heat LWB

Postby clarkster » Tue Jan 12, 2010 9:51 pm

could someone give me some pointers?
my mates van is ruddy freezing and i want to give him a hand fixing his damn heater!
now, since owning the van his temp gauge has never worked nor the heater and in this weather its freezing.
the blower works fine on all speeds.
is it likely to be the thermostats knacked or faulty temp sender?
none of the fuses have blown so the gauge ought to work fine.
i suspect the van isnt getting up to temp hence my thinking about a new stat.
help!

Stat :!:
Under a tenner, common to quite a few Fords so should be stocked anywhere :!:
What are you waiting for :?: Summer :?:

Your temp gauge might even start working as a bonus :!:

if the thermostat was stuck open you would still get some heat coming through but not really hot,if it was stuck shut it would overheat, maybe the flap in the heater is stuck at the cold air position it happens quite alot in trannys!

had a gander today and do you know what you could be right about the flap in the heater. i tried turning the hot/cold knob and it was really hard to turn. got underneath there and sprayed wd40 all over the cables etc and turned the knob whilst doing that and it turned much better and the knob goes much further around into the hot zone now. we go out in the tranny tomorrow so we'll see if she gets warm. still got a new stat on standby just in case.

ps; he also has that problem with the fan only working on speed 3 so we;ll get a new resistor.
