Starting problem.....

Postby CJ-Entertainment » Thu Jan 14, 2010 11:03 pm

Hi guys i just brought a mk5 n reg van, (no glow plugs on dash), for the 1st 3 days i had it it started fine, (but the 1st thing in the morning it smoked a little bit) after it was great. i come to start it and then nothing. makes a ticking noise... its got diesel. battery seem fine (radio and wipers works). but the guy who i got it from said i should change the glow plugs. could this be the problem?

thanks for the help.

My dad had same problem with his van

He charged the battery but over time fitted a new one

But in the end we found it was his starter motor due to where it is situated :P

(It gets heat off Exhaust manifold- if I can remeber?)

Try the Battery first - get it tested if possible.

If solenoid is clicking then its either not getting enough juice. shagged battery, alternator, bad connections
or the started is fecked.
