Mk4 Transit Diesel Electric Failure..

Hi everyone,

Having a problem with my 1999 mk4 Transit..all the electric have stopped working...the speedo has gone, wipers have gone, the blowers gone, head lights have gone...the only thing that is working is the cigarette lighter and side lights are working and also the winkers.

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this to happen?

check the main fuses iirc they are under the bonnet

`99 will be mk5,check ignition relay also.
Its in fuse box in cab,marked with a key symbol on fuseboxlid square 4 pin one.

Tried to get to the fuses but can't get them out...... any ideas!!!!!!!

They are bolted in situ,need battery off to do `em really.
Look at them thru window usually see blown ones,check the ignition relay its a common failure.

Think it is the ignition relay because when i turn the key no lights come on how do i check it is the relay!!!!! cheers

Try tapping it with ignition on
If not carefully prise it open,lid off then hold contacts together with it in situ see if everything comes on.

If thats a bit "dodgy" for you either borrow or buy a new `un.

It is quite a high current one,around 70 Amps i think (may be marked on lid)

Thanks mate i've done what u said and when i press the points together everything comes back on but won't stay on does this mean i need a new one if there is there a quick fix!!!!!!! thanks

Need a new un,
wedge points together with something non conductive & fit relay as temp repair.
Don`t forget to remove when you`ve done using van
