mk5 non bannana engine options....

Postby steve591 » Thu Jan 28, 2010 12:39 am

are there any different engine options for the non bannana style 2.5 di? (non turbo)

im sure iv heard of people speaking of different power engines, but im after some definitive info, as iv been offered pickings from another mk5 thats being scrapped.

my mk5, is fairly slow to start, is gutless when it does start, infact it stalls for the first 30 seconds or so if i dont give it some welly! although it does the job it needs to it just feels like it cant be bothered if u get me lol. when im towing its awful, it struggled to get to 50 on the motorway towing my vitara on a 4wheel trailer.
i had a 190 with bannana previous to this one and it flew! anyway, this mk5 breaking, im sure has the same engine, but starts on the button, loads of life, revs up alot free'er, it just feels like it has so much life, like it actually wants to go somewhere. other than lack of power there doesnt appear to be anything wrong with my engine, no exxessive oil consumption, fuel consumption, iv not done a compression test...yet. im happy to put the blame on the injection pump being tired for now, the point is, is it worth me taking the engine out of the scrapper, or just the fuel pump? other than condition would there be any difference between the engines?

they are both on 130k give or take a few k

Fit the banana manifold and injectors from the other engine and turn your fuel pump up :)

yes as long as it has the thin injectors.... Held down with 1 bolt the early head has 2 bolts holding down the injectors.(the 2 bolt ones will be mk3 transit with the big round air filter ontop of the manifold

Standard = 70ps

Banana = 76ps

Turbo = 85ps

Turbo = 100ps

Turbo = 115ps

the compression is different between the turbos and non turbos
