misshaped wheel bearing

any ideas what could have caused this misshapen wheel bearing its on my v reg mk5 short wheel base semi high top 14 inch wheels

done up too tight then it creates hot areas which will miss shape
we had it in a lot of our race cars

seriously tho, how long have you had the van? was it fitted by you or a garage you used?

really cant see that happening in 'normal' use or 'sensable' fitting

hi i bought the van about 4-5 month ago and got the disks and pads done for mot at the place where i work (check out my other threads)and the wheel bearing didnt rumble or whine untill a few days ago when the radio was turned off i noticed a strange whining noise that progresivly got worse jacked it up today and checked for play and bingo both front bearings need changed

Looks like physical damage, no discolouration?
possible a bearing slipped round out of position?

spoke to the other techs at my work where discs and pads were fitted and they told me in confidence (so dont tell anyone)
that the lad who done the job used a air gun to tighten up the bearing nut
they thought they had caught him in time but obviously not (so if it is ok with the mods can i name and shame him) the useless little sh*te that he is
ive started using another garage to get my van serviced at after getting references from other customers of theres first
they promise to get the job done on the day its booked in (bonus)
not to do any unautherised work (great)
and to keep me 100% satisfied that the job is to my expectations before i pay (perfect)

I'm suprised it didn't sieze up and destroy the hub!

put new bearings in myself on tuesday night kinda puts you off using garages
