Frothy Fuel!

Hi...looking for a heads up on my Mk5 2.5Di Transit (99), starting running rough a couple of days again, missing and down on power. I find this comes and goes, can be driving along struggling and missing and then suddenly clear.
I've changed the fuel filter and ensured its seated correctly and prefilled it prior to fitting, tried to bleed it through the injectors and all I'm getting is frothy fuel with no discernable pressure. I've checked the obvious fittings around the fuel filter and the pump and nothings leaping out. Before I return for another go tomorrow, has anybody had a similar experience and is there somewhere I should be looking first?

As an aside, I think the fuel filter arrangement is one of the worst I've ever seen...has anybody successfully fitted an alternative to their transit?

Does sound like you've not fitted the filter correctly.

sounds like your drawing air somewhere what year is the van and does it start ok ???

Now I'm home, warm and altogether more even tempered, I'm inclined to agree. Certainly a starting point for the morning, think I'll do what I've done before, remove the whole assembly and build it up on the bench.

Is this the type with the plastic locking ring? If it is then there are 3 locating slots in the filter, push it up and rotate, it will go up slightly more and then you wont be able to turn it. Now do the ring back up.
