flat bed to tipper

Postby aje0711 » Thu Feb 18, 2010 7:31 am

hello,
has anyone had much to do with chasis cabs and changing bodys over. i have a 99 flat bed and was wondering if a mk5 or 6 tipping body would be an easy conversion. my van is an ex bt van and has an extended chassis does this just un bolt also. i dont want to start chopping and taking it all to bits to find i cant fit one anyway.

regards
andrew

Hi there.

Yes it is a very simple swapover, if you have the ability to actually lift the things, Forklift or the like.

They just bolt on to lugs on the chassis, the hardest(!) part would be getting the wiring done!.

I had a new cage fitted recently on another Tipper for 75 quid.(the cage cost a lot more, that was just fitting)

Some bodies will come with the Ram and Hydraulics already in place, just need power to make them tip.

One thing I would ask though, is the cost worthwile. You may find that just swapping/buying a tipper already done makes more sense.

Did I mention I have a 99 t tipper with a nice back on it for sale very soon?..Could be a P/ex :D

I have a spare ram and hydraulics if needed too!
