Smokey on accelaration

Postby simon3314 » Fri Feb 19, 2010 1:51 pm

Hi.... have a 1997 mk5. 127,000. Banana engine is in great condition although I have noticed that on accelaration, at night using the headlights of people behind ,I can see that there is smoke coming out of the exhaust.

Cambelt changed at 117,000, Fresh oil and filter, Fresh air filter and fuel filter including injector cleaner. Engine fires up impressively fast with no smoke and generally no smoke.Im Reluctant to start messing with it too much but think I may be using more fuel than I need to and being a bit of a smokey nuisance, possible m.o.t issue too.

Any suggestions? New/Different injectors? Pump Adjustment? Do nothing?

I would`nt worry about it, as long as its not visible in daylight then I would say that its quite normal, I too notice smoke at night in the lights from behind but nothing during daylight
