Hi All.

On a 99 mk5, the wipers aren't working, tried the fuse and relay , both fine. I will take the stalk off tomorrow and check the connections but I suspect the motor will be duff. Is there a way of checking with a meter if there is any power going to it and where should I be sticking my bit?

Secondly, brake pedal seems a bit gash, stops the van, but not as strong as my other van( and that isn't the best!). In reverse doesn't seem a problem when braking but that is probably down to the speed of travel. Is there a quick method to check for leaks from the servo, after pumping it gets better, or is it bleed the brakes and go from there?

And finally, the old dear hasn't had the EGR mod done and I suspect it may struggle a little on the inclines like the other did but it is beautifully quiet compared to my other van that has had it done. My question is: Would just turning the fuelling up on the pump but leaving the butterfly alone have a benefit, or do the 2 need to be done together to have any benefit?

There is a multiplug on the wiperplug, you can check for volts there (but I dont know which connection does what)

If the servo was poor then pumping the brakes wouldnt make much odds other than making the pedal harder as the vaccum fails. Just to double check with the engine running pull the pipe out of the servo, there should be a thrump noise as air is rapidly pulled in. Stick your finger over the end of the pipe to see if its sucking. Pumping the pedal will help if the rear brakes are out of adjustment (drive around with the handbrake just on to see if it mades any difference) or like you say there is air in the system.

If you just increase the fuelling then you will increase the smoke, but should still get more go. You will need to see how smokey it is or isnt before doing it. Doing the EGR mod at the same time will have more effect.
