I my have been told by a Greek mechanic (I am in a 1992 Ford Transit Autosleeper motorhome) that my LHS looking forward engine mount is worn and needs replacing. There is some movement, although I think its not excessive (I am not a mechanic!) I bought a new rubber mount thingy, and spent HOURS taking the brackets off; some corrosion, awkwardly placed bolts and ordinary spanners!!
I could not take the rubber thing off the top cast iron mount...it would just twist etc..all that happened was the rubber twisted untill I thoughr it would tear (it didn't!) .......The fitting he sold me was too small after all my trouble!.......SO I put it all back together again.
My question is, what could happen if I drove back to UK with it as it is? The engine rocks a bit when I grab the air filter and move it, but not very much. The rubber fitting was not ripped nor did it feel soft, there was no oil dripping on it to soften the rubber; it seemed OK to me.
If I have to do it again, it involves getting the right bit, taking it all apart again, cycling to the neares mechanic/garage with the cast iron top bracket and top "cup" thingy and having him getting it off (how will HE do it???), putting the new bit on and re assembling the whole thing. I am prepared to do it, but dont want to do it igf I don't have to...
ANY ADVICE, HELP, COMMENTS on what I should do?? Thanks very much in advance; sorry to be so long winded.
