IFS OUT, LEAF BACK IN??

Postby bodgit0_0 » Mon Mar 01, 2010 9:53 pm

Hello all, picked up my 1992 150 LWB this weekend and started eyeing up the front end for an axle change.

Originaly I was looking at coiling a Range rover axle under it but the IFS subframe will get in the way of a beam axle.

Has any tried to revert back to leaf springs for the front suspension.

Cheers

I wanted a 4x4 county but cant justify spending county money for what will just end up being my off roaders tow vehicle.

I have spare range rover axles sitting doing nothing and am looking at building my own 4x4 van.

Was looking at using the IFS coil mounts but as this gets its strenght from the beam that links left to right, this beam will fowl a beam axle if fitted.

Was wondering if a rear spring would fit onto the IFS front mount and then make my own rear mount?????

Just a theory.....Possibly just a pipe dream....

Why would you want to put leaf springs on the front?

not sure which spring would be the strongest a front or a rear one :? i think if i was doing it i'd stick to front mk3 springs and weld on a set of hanger from a donor van or replacement panels :D
