MK5 alternator differences

My p reg 1997 mk5 150 (none turbo) swb currently has a lucas 70 amp alternator with the 3 bolt on terminals. I would like to fit an uprated alternator and see that from mid 97 they changed to a bosch 95 amp. Am I correct in thinking that the alternator mountings and vaccum pumps are identical and that it is just the wiring connections that differ between the two types ?

If its that simple does any one have details of which wire goes where ? (I use all 3 wires on the current one as I fitted a mondeo rev counter cluster.) And is it very difficult to take the vaccum pump off the original and fit it to a new one?

To save anybody asking why I wish to fit a larger output alternator, my van has twin starting batts and 4x85amp leisures (with a stering B2B) and at times I tow a caravan that also has 4 leisure bats . So if the headlights and heated screen are on , not much charge will get to the leisure batts!!

Vac pumps are different.. could still use but would also need to change associated piping to suit newer model.
Cabling ... main live bolts on same as currently [just on the back] .. smaller two have a multiplug connector that plugs into a socket on alternator ... you could no doubt 'adapt' the current wiring to fit [bit tricky though]

I reckon I could adapt the electrics easy enough , worst case I could get the multiplug conector from a scrapyard and splice into my existing wiring.

If the vac pumps are different , would the vac pump from a 70 amp lucas fit and work with a bosch 95 amp ? or would I have to use the newer type of vac pump and somehow adapt my existing piping.

You would need the later one .. comes as a whole alternator/pump assembly, unlike earlier model.
